Living in the Northeast Kingdom, there are certainly no shortage of landscapes to photograph. Finding a decent day with adequate sunlight however...
Getting the perfect shot is far from easy and there are only a handful above that I truly think I accomplished that. Lighting is key in landscape photography and mother nature doesn't always want to cooperate.
The photos above with the exception of 1,2, and 5 were all taken this past Friday night. It was a beautiful sunlit night so I suggested my family and I go for a hike at a nearby waterfall. The woods surrounding the waterfall proved to be just as aesthetic to photograph as the waterfall itself. I think #4 turned out best due to the lighting, viewpoint in which it was taken, and the overall balance of sky, water, and greenery. #5, the old sugar shack, is also one of my favorites because of the elements within (shack, old road, and prominent tree in the center). I love places that seem as though time has forgotten them.
The website cited in this week's assignment sums up sort of what I've thought all along in that "what I see is a measure of who I am, what I value, and what I know." I couldn't have said it better myself.
I really like the framing in #2, the way the branches meet overhead to almost form a canopy over the trail. The expansiveness in #11 is also beautiful, unusual viewpoint. It makes me want to go find a tree and look up it from the ground. I like how the detail of the bark retreats into the background, fading as the distance from the lens increases.
ReplyDeleteI love #11 because of the great angle that you chose to photograph it with. I like how in the last photo, you really captured the essence of depth with the light just cresting the horizon. Very well done.
ReplyDelete#1 & #6 really stuck out to me as strong pictures. In #6 the light hitting that area of forest adds a lot of depth and difference to the entire picture. And #1 is beautiful because its so clear and relatable to me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! It is hard to pick just one as my favorite, but I would have to say number 5 of the old barn. I was driving around for over an hour trying to find a similar scene without luck as all the ones in my area have been leveled :(. So nice to see someone else trying to think outside the box. The picture with the view looking up the tree...awesome!!! I have so many pictures like this I think it is a really cook look!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. #5 is my favorite. It looks so peaceful. I love old barns in the woods.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy #4, I think your position in relation to the sun adds just enough splattering of light to give the image an almost mystical feel. I could almost imagine little fairies flitting around the pond.
